FAQ
General Massage & Touch Therapy Questions
I have mobility restrictions that make it difficult to lie on my stomach or flat on my back. Can I still receive a massage?
Yes! And I am so glad you asked! This is actually one of my specialties: I have worked with clients who are unable to get comfortable in “traditional” massage positions. Whether the reason is pregnancy, arthritis, scoliosis, a feeding tube, or other medical device, I have a whole array of bolsters, pillows, and positioning devices to help you relax in a side lying or semi-reclined position.
Some people simply just don’t like being in a face-down position, breathing through a hole in a face cradle. Completely understandable, and totally okay!
In fact, I can often do really wonderful work in these “alternative” positions on people’s hips and shoulders that I couldn’t do as well in the “traditional” positions.
As with any massage, I will check in periodically, and make adjustments as needed to keep you comfortable.
What kind of products do you use?
Massage lubricants (oils, lotions, creams) are used when appropriate for the type of massage being given, and always *only* once client’s preferences and allergies have been discussed.
When I do use lubricants, I tend to only use single-ingredient products that are fruit or vegetable based.
Essential oils may be used per request. I use dōTERRA brand oils, which are Certified Pure Tested Grade (CPTG), and ethically sourced.

What do “Massage” “Touch Therapy” & “Bodywork” actually mean?
Internet searches of any of these terms can lead you down countless rabbit holes. Entertaining, perhaps, but not necessarily helpful!
Here are some explanations of what these terms mean to me:
Massage Therapy The manipulation of muscles and other soft tissues, via compressing, stroking, tapping, kneading, for therapeutic purposes (relieving pain, promoting healing & relaxation, improving physical functioning).
Bodywork Is a broader term, that can encompass a variety of techniques, including massage. Bodywork may also include other modalities, such as acupuncture or chiropractic care.
Touch Therapy A nurturing type of therapy, done with clothing on, in any setting. Still hands with gentle touch. No gliding, no soft tissue manipulation. This modality is simply and sweetly designed to provide comfort, increase trust & communication.
I may use this approach with children, clients with severe pain, cognitive changes, or individuals processing trauma or grief.
Should I talk or not talk during my session?
*However* you should always speak up if anything becomes painful or uncomfortable, or if you need something different in terms of position, pressure, focus, or speed of your massage. And, if you need to pause or stop a session for any reason, please let me know!
Policy FAQ
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, personal checks, Venmo, and credit cards.
Does your pricing include tip?
I consider massage therapy to be part of an integrative wellness plan, and just as tips are not expected when you visit your dental hygienist or other healthcare provider, I don’t think you should have to add in a tip for me!
Your referral to a friend or family member, however, would be most welcome. Referrals are the greatest form of compliment. Refer a friend, and I’ll repay your kindness with a $50 gift certificate when your friend schedules their first session with me.
Where are you located?
I maintain a small, private studio in Occidental, CA. Just up the lane from “downtown” Occidental and the Bohemian Market. Beautiful, private setting, parking available on the property.
I can also provide Mobile Massage to your home or office in the East Bay (El Cerrito, Berkeley, Oakland), and Western Sonoma County. Please call or email me for pricing and scheduling.

What is your cancellation policy?
I prefer that if at all possible, you provide me with at least 48 hours notice for a cancellation.
That said, as a nurse, as a parent, as a person living with my own autoimmune challenged system, I understand that things happen. Maintaining health & safety for myself, for my family, and for you and yours, is my highest priority.
IF you are feeling unwell, or learn that you have been exposed to COVID or any other contagious bugs, PLEASE cancel your appointment!
We will work together when you’re feeling better to get you rescheduled and back into treatment!
What are your COVID protocols?
I was a nurse working the frontlines early in the pandemic. I became quite ill myself, and lost a coworker. I also live with a compromised immune system. I was vaccinated early, and have received boosters as soon as they became available to me, and my personal physicians felt they were appropriate for me to receive safely.
I do not require you to be vaccinated (many cancer patients, or individuals with other health concerns, are not able to get vaccinated, or may have their booster sequences delayed). However, my strong preference is that if you are able to get vaccinated, you do so.
I do a thorough cleaning of all surfaces and linens in between each client session. I do everything in my power to keep us both safe & healthy!
Why does your intake form ask me about my health history?
It is my responsibility to ensure that I am providing you with a massage that is safe & appropriate for your body. We will review your medical history together to make sure I am aware & mindful of any previous surgeries, implants, chronic injury, previous injuries, allergies, or medications that might influence my treatment plan for your individualized session.
This is also a great time for you to voice any of your own questions, concerns, or personal preferences before you get on my table and we begin our session together.
I see that you are also an RN. Can I ask you health related questions?
I do describe my practice as “Massage Therapy via a Nurse’s Lens.”
However, I only work within my professional scope of practice. In this setting, I am a massage therapist, not a nurse.
I have a knowledge base that informs my assessment, treatment plan, and touch. I maintain an extensive resources & referrals list. If you, or I, identify a question or concern that I cannot address as your massage therapist, I will encourage you to reach out to your primary care provider, and I will happily pass along any suggestions for other related practitioners that may be appropriate to your needs.
DISCRIMINATION
All communities are welcome in my practice. I provide a safe space for healing.
I often work with clients who are in major times of transition, and I do my best to hold space for all the emotions, vulnerabilities, fears, and also the excitement & joys they may be experiencing.
